One of my users is trying to setup a win2k8 app server on our Domain (It's not a DC). He needs to be able to allow BITS uploads to the IIS7 site he has created on it. Initial he installed the "Bits server extensions" and "Bits server extensions tools" under Features. Under "Roles - IIS -internet information server - Site - Sites - Default..." he has created a Virtual directory pointing to a physical one on the C:\ (as a test location) the BITS Uploads feature is available under the 'Features View' and double clicking brings up the Feature screen with the "Allow clients to upload files" check box un-ticked. He can tick this box but when he clicks on apply he gets this generic error "An error occurred while enabling BITS uploads. Please check the event log for more details about the exception. Exception Message: External component has thrown an exception " I have looked in the event log and there seems to be no occurrence of this error or any more information. Can anyone help me get this BITS uploads server working?Cheers!

were you able to resolve this. I got the same issue. I've tried 7 servers in this network, 2003/2008 all fail to enable BITS uploads.

Same issue here. Server 2008 Standard SP2. Nothing useful in the Application or System logs. Nick.
