BCDEdit.exe Syntax to Remove DVD-Rom from Boot
I receive an error message in event viewer each time I reboot my windows 2008 Standard R2 64 bit server. The error message indicates that the cd/DVD rom could not be loaded. The server does not have a cd/DVD rom drive. I did use an external DVD drive to load the OS. However, that DVD drive is no longer connected to the server. It appears that I need to use BCDEdit.exe to edit boot devices. I have made several unsuccessful attempts at the syntax to remove the DVD rom from boot with the BCDEdit utility. Could someone please help? TIA

Hi, It seems the device driver is still running when booting the computer. Please try following steps to see if we can fix the issue: 1. Right click Computer and chooses Properties. 2. Click the "Advanced System settings", and then click "Environment Variables" 3. Click "New" under the "System Variables" 4. Enter "DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES" (without quotations) in the Variable Name, and set Variable Value to 1. 5. Click OK to apply the change. 6. Right click My Computer, choose Properties, and then choose Hardware from the tab, click Device Manager. 7. Enter Device Manager, and choose "View" from the tab and "Click Show Hidden Devices". 8. Check if there is any CDROM listed. If so, right click on it and choose Uninstall.
