Azure billing on Free Trial accounts

Just a warning: Free Trials can incur $1500 of charges, I just found out.

Azure switched my ~2013 Free Trial to a Pay-As-You-Go but did not change the name or status in my Azure Manager or Azure Portal. I tried out a few services that were designated as free in Free Trial accounts and now have a bill for $1500.

Be very careful with Azure. Free Trial accounts are NOT FREE.

Greetings!

The only way you would have been charged is when you would have removed the spending Limit by logging in to Azure Accounts portal which upgrades your Free Trial subscription to Pay-as-you-go. However, you might still see the subscription name as Free Trial as it is a user-friendly name and an admin has the liberty to change it according to their convenience.

Steps for changing the subscription name:

1/ Login in to https://account.windowsazure.com using your Live ID.
2/ Click on the Subscriptions tab.
3/ Select the subscription for which you want to change the name.
4/ Click on Edit Details.
5/ Here you will find the option to change the Subscription Name.

Thank you,

Arvind
