Azure Virtual Machines backup and restore

Hi,

I am new to Azure and have confusions about what is the best way to backup an Azure VM (with complete data) so that if something goes down with VM, we can restore it from backup.

Here is the scenario, we have 4 servers in Production environment 2 Web 1 App and 1 Database server. Our requirement is to backup Database server so that we can restore it from crisis time.

I am pretty confused with Azure Site Recovery and Azure backup Vault options. Can we use Azure Site Recovery or Backup Vault for backing Azure Virtual Machines and restore it later?

Any response will be helpful.

Thanks

One thing to add is our Production environment is hosted in Azure only. We have a subscription and running 2 Web 1 App and 1 DB server hosted in Azure. We want to backup DB VM.

Please help.

Hey Vive,

Thanks for posting!!

As we speak about Azure Backup Vault there are three things you can do:

1. Create Snapshot of the VM

2. Download  Azure Backup Agent - You can choose the files you want to backup but without plugins which mean that you will be able to restore the DB mdf file or ldf file completely as is which is not always the best.

3. Azure DPM Agent -If you got System Center Disaster Protection Manager on your on-prem you can download it and manage it from there (According to your Plugins)

When Speaking about Azure Site Recovery there is no Azure to Azure backup option yet.

But, if you got SCVMM you can configure Azure to On-Prem DR/BCP scenario.

Hope that its all clear now.
