Azure RMS - Sharing Email with external vendors

Hi Fellows,

Does Azure RMS support sending email to external vendors (not part of your domain)?

What if user is on Office 365?

What if user is on-premises (no office 365 and no RMS infrastructure)?

I am able to send protected email (using custom template from Azure RMS) but not able to open it on two external recipients end in both of the above scenario even I registered on RMS individual for both external recipients.

Dear Nithin,

Thank you for your time and hurry in proposing your response as answer :)

My query is about sharing "email", not the documents. Can we send an email protected with Azure RMS custom template to someone outside your domain? or it is only for internal users?

Regards.

Hi,

 Sorry for the confusion.
Referring to the FAQ page for Azure RMS, I found the below answer, which I believe answers your question.
 https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn750853.aspx

Can I add users from outside my company to custom templates?

Yes.  Creating custom templates that end users (and administrators) can select from applications makes it quick and easily for them to apply information protection, using predefined policies that you specify. One of the settings in the template is who is able to access the content, and you can specify users and groups from within your organization, and users from outside your organization.

How you specify the users from outside your organization depends on whether you are configuring the templates from the Azure portal, or using Windows PowerShell. You can use either of these options:

  • From the Azure portal:  Create contact accounts for these users  in the Azure directory, and configure these accounts with their external email addresses. Then, when you configure the templates, you will be able to select these users in the same way as you can select users from your own organization.

  • Windows PowerShell:    Specify the external email addresses in a rights definition object, which you then use to create or update a template. You specify the rights definition object by using the -RightsDefinition parameter with the Add-AadrmTemplate cmdlet (for a new template) or Set-AadrmTemplateProperty cmdlet (if you're modifying an existing template).

For more information, see Configuring Custom Templates for Azure Rights Management.
