Azure Files Possibly Causing Azure VM Bluescreen

We have 2 cloud services with 2 A3 VMs (Server 2012 R2 with roles Web-Common-Http, Web-Windows-Auth, Web-Mgmt-Console, BranchCache) in each service. Each cloud service has a dedicated Azure files back end that are mirrored nightly from a master. All the web servers have a virtual directory pointing to its cloud services dedicated Azure files storage account via the SMB path. The content being delivered via the IIS servers are large static files that we need BranchCache enabled for. These web servers are brand new (I've rebuilt them twice now), built from the template gallery, and are not domain joined.

Recently we started to add load onto our systems and the IIS servers are now crashing every few minutes. Crash dump analysis points to C:\Windows\System32\rdbss.sys as being the culprit. I am assuming this is caused by our virtual directory SMB connection to the Azure Files share.

Here are some additional details on the crashes:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x00000027 (0x00000000baad0073, 0xffffd00180694d38, 0xffffd00180694540, 0xfffff80131034c63). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 042115-90968-01.

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x00000139 (0x0000000000000002, 0xffffd0007ff0cd00, 0xffffd0007ff0cc58, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 042115-84296-01.

Note that the above KB articles apply to Server 2012 only and the patches do not work on 2012 R2.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi David,

The rdbss.sys error mostly occurs when there's an issue with the Operating System redirector.
This needs a detailed analysis of the logs to isolate the source of the issue and troubleshoot it.
It would be best if you could raise a technical support case for further assistance with this.
