I have Windows 2003server and I'm trying to do an windows updates but I get an Errornumber: 0x8024D007.I tried to reregister all dll's provided by Microsoft but still I get same error.I check the services and I found out the automatic update service is missing.I downloaded windows update agent installer to reinstall the service but I still get an error 0x8024D007.I tried to register manually wuaueng.dll but it failed and I get an error 0x80070005 but when I register WUAPI.DLL it suceeded.Pls help me solve this problem..Thanks in advanceJess

Hi There,As a quick check, can you please restart your system in safe mode with networking and navigate to services.msc to find whether the service is present and started.This is wierd behavior,i understand if the updates are not working but service shouldnt be missing from services.msc.Hope you had performed complete system scan I strongly feel that there was a malware / virus attack , because none of the applications would be able to modify scm database and the only possibility is malware / virus which would have deleted.

I asked my co-staff and he admitted to me that he unregistered some of the dll's to troubleshooot but apparently he already forgot some of the dll's he unregistered so some it was not registered again.This might be the cause why the automatic updates service is missing.Do you how to install it again?I can't be safe mode now because its a production server.Thanks!
