Antivirus question on a file server
Dear all, I have a simple Server 2008 R2 which run AD and work as file server for simply sharing data. The server is running WSUS for pulling update. I need to install on this Server a good antivirus which is capable to collect virus database update and then push them efficiency to the virus client which will be install on 10 workstation running Windows 7. The antivisrus product must offer a simple access to verify if client computer are safely update. I have check for ForeFront but there are different things and tool around so no idea which package to take. I welcome to other product similar as ForeFront. The solution should not be too expensive for the final customer Thnaka for your help and adviseYour knowledge is enhanced by that of others.

For Antivirus questions, I think it will be better to post in "Anti-Virus / Anti-Spam" forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrantivirusandantispam/threads There you will find experts of Forefront. Hello, this is nothing that should run on a DC, use a member server instead, also for other required applications. For AV on DCs see also: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc780637(WS.10).aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc816917(WS.10).aspx http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822158 For all other vendor suggestions please use their websites. You can check Symantec, Sophos, McAffee which are running on servers for sure.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Hello, DCs are high important in a domain and the recommendation for them is also to run at least 2 DC/DNS/GC per domain for failover and redundancy. If applications run on them and you run into trouble with the DC, some applications must be uninstalled(like Exchange), before a DC can be demoted. Just one reason. I your case with only one server, you have to run it on that machine as no other exists, just wanted to make clear that this is not recommended configuration. Active directory has more requirements as using a workgroup. Also the backup for AD is different then normal ones, snapshots, images/clones, file copies of Vitual machine DCs are not supported operations. With only one DC make sure that backup for this one follows: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc794826(WS.10).aspxBest regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Trend Micro Worry Free Business Security Checkpoint End-Point Security Symantec End-Point Security ESET NOD32 Security Solutions - ESET Smart Security + NOD32 Antivirus for File Servers(to your request) Kaspersky for Business Vipre Business Premium AV & Endpoint Security Of the List above... The ones that I know have a central console to view the status, remotely initialize scans, and do all the cool "admin" tricks with the Security Product are Checkpoint Endpoint Security, Trend Micro WFBS, and Symantec Endpoint Security. I'm a little in the dark on the other 3, but I only know Vipre from many issues of TechNet magazine.
