Anti Virus
I'm a novice user of windows server 2008, and I'm trying to know what softwares it supports, alot of useful softwares don't like this OS, even my antivirus (McAfee Internet Security 2010). My question is, what antivirus can run on this OS?

There are several out there (Symantec, Trend Micro, Sophos, etc.). What is important is that you use a software package that is intended for a server. It's not a good idea to use software meant for a workstation on a server. -------- Regards, Hank Arnold Microsoft MVP Windows Server - Directory Services http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/personal-pc-assistant/ On 11/16/2010 6:28 PM, nickel matt wrote: I'm a novice user of windows server 2008, and I'm trying to know what softwares it supports, alot of useful softwares don't like this OS, even my antivirus (McAfee Internet Security 2010). My commendation is to use Microsoft Security Essentials... It is the least intrusive and it actually does a great job. If it is just for your server and you need no centralized management then SE is your best bet...

My question is, what antivirus can run on this OS? A lot depends on what you intend the server for. A stand alone small network does fine with any suggestion already made. If you are intending on a bigger network with a large number of users, consider McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator to control all the server and workstation AV installations from a central point. A central repository also means less impact on internet bandwidth as the ePO downloads once and then updates the individual units through the local network rather than having every individual machine pranging the router trying to get updates. Very convenient but overkill for a small network.
