Akward Profile Behavior's on 2008R2 - Default Browser
I have a 2008 R2 domain. I have some user profiles and when they roam most settings in their profiles roam along with them - desktop icons, bookmarks and even most things stored in hkey_current_user. However the software/classes key (determining the default browser is the issue at hand) does not roam. It does however seem to be written to the local profile cache. So if the user logs back in to the machine they just logged off of, their previous selected browser is still represented in the registry. If the user logs onto a machine w/o a local cached profile already on it, they get a blank Key entry; the classes key has nothing under it and when the user launches any browser it asks them if it should be the default browser. I have been able to create new test keys under software like software/test/tester without problem, just to make sure that the ntuser.dat file is being updated on logoff. These keys move from machine to machine with or without local cache, no problem. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi, Windows Vista and later system store the default browser settings under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\ Associations\UrlAssociations\[ftp|http|https]". If the user doesn’t change the default browser settings, above Registry doesn’t exist and system use settings under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT which is not roamed. Please check the user’s Registry key and make sure UrlAssociations\[ftp|http|https] is present with correct settings. If they are exist, default browser settings should roaming as expected.
