Advice on RAID setup for S2008R2
We have a new Dell T310 server with a PERC 6/i RAID adapter. We have 4x WD RE3 2TB drives. This server is going to run Server 2008 R2 and Hyper-V. Originally I setup the RAID with one virtual disk at the full 5.456TB that RAID5 would allow. I assumed S2008R2 wouldn't mind using that as a GPT but I was wrong. Even after using DISKPART from Setup to force the drive to a GPT, Windows would not install on that drive saying "Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. The partition is an EFI system partition." Ideally I would have liked just a single partition so I don't have to worry about keeping .VHDs on different partitions but unless I'm missing something, I guess this system won't support installing and booting off a GPT. So I'm looking for advice on how I should set this up. I would like to stay away from setting up 3 virtual disks if at all possible.

It is available to clear the disk? If so, try to run the "clean" command under Diskpart: diskpart list disk ---- note the disk # sel disk # clean ---- Note: this step will remove all information on the disk. Then please have a test to see if Windows 2008 R2 can be installed now.Shaon Shan| TechNet Subscriber Support in forum| If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com
