Admin Rights
Hi, On my domain, my AD account is a member of the domain admin group. On my server I am running Windows 2008 R2. I performed a fresh install, and added it to the domain (not a DC). I added the Domain Admins group as a local administrator on this machine and tried doing a few things that would require admin right, but it would not allow me. so i logged back on as administrator of the local machine and added my particular AD account to local admin group. Still no dice. When running certain programs, such as ExtremeZ-IP that require admin rights, i have to right click and 'run as administrator'. other things that i do from the command prompt, i cannot do at all when logged into my AD account, even if i run the comman prompt as administrator. for example: i was migrating data over to this new server using robocopy command line. it kept telling me "You do not have the Manage Auditing user right". i had to log off and do everything from the local admin account. Why am i not getting local admin rights? Thanks, Alan

do you need to enter different credentials when you select "run as admininstrator"? or does the program just runs (after the security messagebox/secure desktop)? Maybe its just a UAC setting. hth Gregor Stefka

Hello, first a domain member machine has by default added the domain admins group as local administrator, so no need to do it with GPO, except you will change the default. Only the Administrator account on Windows server 2008 and higher is able to fullfil more or less all tasks without elevation. This belongs to UAC where even members of enterprise/domain/administrators group. So what you see is expected and RUNAS has to be used or you disable UAC, which i don't recommend. Another option is to define UAC with GPO more specific under Computer configuration, policies, windows settings, security settings, local policies, security optionsBest regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
