I need to set up DHCP in a remote office. At the hospice I support, we have two locations. One in Hyde Park, NY and the other in Kingston, NY (about 25 miles away). The two sites are connected by a T1. The Hyde Park office is the main site and houses all the servers except for a downstream WSUS server and a Domain Controller. Both sites are in the same Windows 2000 Active Directory domain (hopefully to change by YE11). The Kingston subnet is 192.168.100.nnn and the Hyde Park subnet is 192.168.1.nnn. I have sites defined for both locations in the domain. Both DCs in Hyde park are in the Hyde Park site. The sole DC in Kingston is in the Kingston site. We are in the process of switching vendors for phone, data and internet access (scheduled for 3/2 & 3/3). In the current configuration, a DC in Hyde Park provides DHCP for the 192.168.1 subnet. In Kingston, however, DHCP is provided by the Cisco router (we didnt have any servers in that site at the time). With the new vendor, we are planning to take DHCP off of the router and have it provided by our network. These will be the 192.168.100 addresses. Im trying to plan for the cutover. I plan to add DHCP (with the appropriate ranges & exclusions) to the DC in Kingston. My questions are: 1. If I do add DHCP for the 192.168.100 addresses to the Kingston DC will that only affect users in the 192.168.100 subnet? 2. Should I do this before or after the new router is in place? 3. What would happen if I added DHCP to the Kingston DC (with the same ranges & exclusions as the router) while the new router is in place? I dont have access to the router configuration.
