Add Member Server to Domain
The error is as follows "Windows cannot connect to the domain either because the DC is down or otherwise in use or because the computer account was not found"

Hello, i assume that your migration is done incorrect, so again please describe detailed steps you have done. Just seeing the machine name in AD UC doesn't mean anything to be able to access the domain.Best regards Meinolf Weber MVP, MCP, MCTS Microsoft MVP - Directory Services My Blog: http://msmvps.com/blogs/mweber/ Disclaimer: This posting is provided AS IS with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.

A third party entity performed the migration so I am not able to provide the details. Based on what I am aware the following occurred. Backup of all servers to be migrated used the vmware migration tool and backup app to migrate and restore the images of the servers I really can speak to what else was done. sorry about that.

So the Domain controller where you are getting this message is it a VM? If yes , Are you using any of the clone/imag/snapshot to run this VM? If this is a case you will have to assign separate SID using Sysprep (As it might be an issue with SID confilt). Refer below link. http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/window-on-windows/how-do-i-change-the-sid-and-computer-name-of-a-cloned-virtual-machine/736 http://www.brajkovic.info/windows-server-2008/windows-server-2008-r2/how-to-change-sid-on-windows-7-and-windows-server-2008-r2-using-sysprep http://www.petri.co.il/fixing-windows-cannot-connect-to-the-domain-errors.htm Hope this helps. I am getting this message from the original physical box (not in VM environment). The image was taken from this box and placed in VM environment.

Can you refer below article. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816099 It will explains how to check duplicate SID's in AD and remove them. I really think there is a duplication of SID ( Single SID is used by 2 computer accounts). So clear up the Duplicate SID and then give a try Regards, _Prashant_MCSA|MCITP SA|Microsoft Exchange 2003 Blog - http://prashant1987.wordpress.com Disclaimer: This posting is provided AS-IS with no warranties/guarantees and confers no rights. Hi I have a server running Win2k3 SP2. The server was previously added to the domain without issue, however we migrated on environment to a virtual environment and kept the names of the servers during the migration. The oringal physical device was turned off, however I would liek to repurpose the device - as the name already exits on the network and removed the erver from teh domain and readded it successfully (so I thought). I can see the name within AD.. However when I go to sign into the domain I am getting and error the domain is either busy, unavailable and would not allow me to login. Is there a step I missed, why can't I login into the domain using this device. Thanks

What is the exact error message when you are trying to login to the domain? Is the IP address and the DNS address defined properly on the server? Can you login to the server locally and try to ping the domain? Hello, The problem is not enough clear from your description. Could you please post the output of these commands on DCs you have so that we can check that they are in a healthy state? ipconfig /all > c:\ipconfig.txtdcdiag /v > c:\dcdiag.txt Use Microsoft Skydrive to upload the files and then post a link here. Also, post the output of ipconfig /all > c:\ipconfig.txt on the client experiencing issues when trying to contact your DCs. Hello, "however we migrated on environment to a virtual environment and kept the names of the servers during the migration. " How was this done, P2V with the running machines or did you add VM DCs to the eixsting domain and have renamed them afterwards? PLease clarify the used steps here in detail. Please post an unedited ipconfig /all from the DC/DNS servers and the problem machine also.Best regards Meinolf Weber MVP, MCP, MCTS Microsoft MVP - Directory Services My Blog: http://msmvps.com/blogs/mweber/ Disclaimer: This posting is provided AS IS with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.

I am getting this message from the original physical box (not in VM environment). The image was taken from this box and placed in VM environment. Did you used sysprep to get the image? The new image may have a duplicate SID with the source one like Prashant mentioned. Could you please upload the output of commands I already suggested?
