Active Directory 2008/MMC Creation
Hello, I am trying to create a local MMC on my computer that I will eventually publish on one of our servers. I am trying to gain access to our Active Directory, which is located on our Mail server. The Mail server uses Active Directory 2003, but the server I am going to be publishing the MMC on is a 2008 server. I will not be using the MMC to make changes to our Exchange accounts. I was told that with the 2003 version of AD there were a set of tools that you could download onto your local PC to enable you to have the add-ins for AD. I was wondering if there was anything out there like that for 2008? Sorry if this is vague, I am just not really sure where to start with this. Thanks in advance.

Hello, to use the tools like AD UC, AD DT and AD sites and services you have to install the adminpak from Windows server 2003 DC on the client up to Windows XP, therefore connect to the c:\windows\system32 folder on the server and run "adminpak.msi" to install the complete tools set. In Windows Vista or higher OS versions the RSAT(Remote server administration tools) have to be installed: RSAT 32bit: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=9FF6E897-23CE-4A36-B7FC-D52065DE9960&displaylang=en RSAT 64bit: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=D647A60B-63FD-4AC5-9243-BD3C497D2BC5&displaylang=en Then open Control Panel, Programs and features, Turn windows features on or off, check the tools you like under "Remote Server Administration Tools" RSAT Windows 7 32/64bit: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7D2F6AD7-656B-4313-A005-4E344E43997D&displaylang=en The new server versions include the RSAT tools which can be installed from the server manager, add features.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
