Activation after restore
Hello, I am running XenServer as virtualiser. When is restore a VM the NIC gets a new MAC address and Windows is asking for activation of the restored VM. Before the restore the VM was activated allready (i am using KMS server because the network have no internet connection). The restored system is running fine. I am wondering if this could have influance on Active Directory. After the restore do i have to reset the computer account and rejoin the computer to the domain? Or is that not neccesary? Thnks! Hello, the NIC is the physical layer of the machine. And even if the MAC address is different it has nothing to do with AD as the SID is still existing in the domain and is not based on the MAC address. Just make sure it is registered correct in the DNS zones, therefore i would delete the record and after this is replicated to all other DNS servers run ipconfig /registerdns to see if the update is correct.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Thnks for your answer. In DNS there is nothing to do with MAC right? And the IP address of the restored VM is the same as the original. So in my point of view DNA is registered correct. Do i really have to delete the record you think? Bastiaan
