Access to files on shared drive when SQL cluster is shut down?

Sorry if this is a newbie question. Spent a couple of hours researching this but can't find an answer.

Is there a way to get access to the files on the shared drive from either of the nodes when the SQL Cluster is shut down? It doesn't look like there is, but hoping there is some trick. I see how it can be done with a Windows Cluster but not a SQL Cluster. Thanks.

Because the shared drive is a resource in a Windows Server Failover Cluster (WSFC) you can only access gain access to it if the WSFC allows it to. For example, because it is a clustered drive you can bring it online thru the WSFC so you can access it back.

Hi There,

You mean clustered disks added to your Windows cluster.

When your cluster is down your disks goes offline. One way of doing it is bring the cluster up and running and then bring your disks.

By any chance if your cluster is destroyed or damaged you need to ask your wintel guys to build a new cluster and attach the same storage.

if you wanted to access the disks with out cluster you contact your storage guys they may able to help you by attaching to some other server and allow you to access.

good luck.
