AMD Cool'n'Quiet not working on R2
Installed 2008 R2 on my PC and also SP1 (MICROSOFT.WINDOWS.7.AND.SERVER.2008.R2.SERVICE.PACK-1.RTM.X64.WAVE1.RIP.DVD-WZ.ZUKO ). The problem is that I cant get Cool n Quiet working (it wont lower the CPU multiplier), it's set to Auto in Bios. It worked in W7 X64 Ultimate. BTW, the CPU is a Phenom II X2 560 BE with unlocked 4 cores @ 3,89GHz (was ok in W7) Tried Power Saver plan, nothing. Advanced Power Options looks like this - http://www.upload.ee/image/1104504/Capture.PNG I know there should be two more options: - Minimum processor state - Maximum processor state but there aren't.

Your question is more realted to AMD applications and this forums is meant to support Windows 2008 R2 Server Features so please psot it in the AMD forums as the folks over there are discussing on the same issue http://forums.amd.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=29&threadid=134880http://www.virmansec.com/blogs/skhairuddin

Hello, keep in mind that Windows server 2008 R2 SP1 is NOT RTM until now and you should NEVER work with RC/BETA version on production machines.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

If I remember correctly, SP1 should "RTM" in about a week (for MSDN), though I doubt there will be any changes compared to that I've already installed. Thanks, And all the best.

Hello, Windows 7 is NOT Windows server 2008 R2. Especially if it comes to the part of drivers and how vendors support there software, so contact AMD if the version is compatible. If you have read the EULA for the RC/BETA version of the SP you should have seen that it is for testing only and must be uninstalled prior to install the RTM version. The RTM version will be different and the ONLY supported version if you run into problems. There is no support for the RC/BETA candidates. So safe your data, uninstall it and wait until the RTM is available and install it.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Got it to work. All I had to do was to disable unlock core feature in the bios, let it boot up to Windows as the default AMD Phenom II 560 Black Edition model. It (Windows) then automagically installed something (drivers), required a restart and on the next boot to Windows it was now able to change/lower the CPU multiplier, even works after I have re-enabled the unlock core feature. Strange, wonder if Windows doesn't "believe" in the need to downclock Business class CPUs (AMD Phenom B-series, B60 in my case when unlocking cores) or is it just a driver issue. BTW, I already HAD the REAL SP1 RTM (It was the leaked one), not the RC/Beta, so it had nothing to do with that.

Hello, nice to hear that you found your solution. :-) I am always surprised that so many people trust whatever source to download supposed to be Microsoft software. This software could be manipulated with whatever tool/spyware/virus etc. Just my 2 cent on this.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
