My requirement in essence is to be able to obtain Inventory reports from computers that are not part of our Windows domain or Active Directory forest or are connected to our internal network.  These Windows workstations are located around the world either on separate networks or home offices.

I would like to know if AIS on line services could help me obtain Inventory reports from these type of machines, obviously after installing the AIS agent on these computers.  All the MS knowledge base web sites related to MDOP - AIS do not specify or give me an idea that this is possible.

Hi Ramon,

AIS will be able to inventory non-domained joined machines.  The fundamental requirement is that the machines have an internet connection so they can upload their inventory to the AIS service.

Great question!

AIS and Windows Intune are both services that come from our group.  AIS is sold as part of MDOP, as you know, and has hardware/software inventory and license management capabilities.  This functionality is also part of Windows Intune, in addition to the other capabilities, such as update management, malware protection, etc.  More details can be found here: www.windowsintune.com

Windows Intune is also a cloud based service requiring only an internet connection to work.  It will be available towards the end of the year.
