AD upgrade to 64 Bit
I just added a new terminal server 2003 64 Bit to my network that has existing Terminal server 2003 32bit servers. I have the desktop redirected and have set a mandatory wallpaper in group policy. When a user logs on to a 32 bit Terminal Server everything works fine. When the same user logs on to a 64Bit Terminal Server the user gets a grey screen as a wall paper. I have set a active desktop wallpaper in a group policy. Do I need to do anything to my Active Directory to prepare it for a 64 Bit server? Also for some reason when I log onto my 64 bit as administrator I cannot change the desktop wallpaper. It only allows me to change the color not the picture.

There is nothing needed to be done to prepare for 64 bit member servers from Active Directory's perspective. Visit my blog: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

As Jorge mentioned, if you are talking about 64 bit server (not DC) you don’t need to prepare your AD. Make sure you are using proper DNS and it can resolve the name. Thanks for the response. Do I need to have a 64bit DC in my network? Any idea why when a user connects to the 64bit terminal server they do not get the assigned group policy wallpaper? That's what my main problem is. When a user logs on to a 32bit Terminal Servers they get the assigned wallpaper but when the same user logs on to a 64 bit TS they get just a grey screen.

Hello, no, forget the OS architecture in a domain, it doesn't matter. Both can coexist without any problem. Logged on to the 64bit TS as a user and run rsop.msc to see if the correct GPOs are applied.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

You don’t need to have a 64 bit DCs. You can install 64 bit servers without 64 bit DCs. Users will get GPOs regardless of the server type. . When the same user logs on to a 64Bit Terminal Server the user gets a grey screen as a wall paper. I have set a active desktop wallpaper in a group policy. . Hi , You have answered your question, which means you are able to login to Terminal server and the involvement of RDP protocol irrespective of 32 or 64bit is completed. And you need to concentrate on the Group Policy to check why is the wall paper is not getting applied.
