AD:CS - Certificate Request Failed
Hi, We've created some certificate requestions however when we try to submit them with https://localhost/certsrv/certrqad.asp using an Advanced Certificate Requestin a PKCS #10 format we receive this error.:- Error <!-- Green HR --> Your request failed. An error occurred while the server was processing your request. Contact your administrator for further assistance. <input id="locBtnDetails" onclick="blur();spnBasic.style.display='none';spnAdvanced.style.display='';" type="button" value="Details >>" /> <!-- Advanced info --> Request Mode: newreq - New Request Disposition: (never set) Disposition message: (none) Result: The RPC server is unavailable. 0x800706ba (WIN32: 1722) COM Error Info: CCertRequest::Submit: The RPC server is unavailable. 0x800706ba (WIN32: 1722) LastStatus: The operation completed successfully. 0x0 (WIN32: 0) Suggested Cause: This error can occur if the Certification Authority Service has not been started. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {D99E6E74-FC88-11D0-B498-00A0C90312F3} and APPID {D99E6E74-FC88-11D0-B498-00A0C90312F3} to the user JAW\cdata.bob SID (S-1-5-21-3375600576-2104963644-2928902236-1113) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've added "domain admins" to the "CertSrv Request" DCOM object and given it Local activation permission. The account I am using is a local admin, domain admin, domain users, enterprise admins. This on Server 2008 R2.

Just set-up a second 2008 R2 server and am getting the same issue, tried turning the firewall off and still have the same problem.

I don't mean to sound like a smart ___ but "This error can occur if the Certification Authority Service has not been started." I just did a test in our lab, I stopped the Certificate Services service and I was still able to access the http://localhost/certsrv/certrqad.asp website because that is just a page hosted by IIS. So that tells us the interface to make the request can be up and running and the backend of the operation can be shut down, so... Are you sure Certificate Services service is running. Can you go to the Services applet and see that is is Started and set to Automatic. Have you built a Certificate Authority server? You know Root CA, OID, policy file, any of that ring a bell. Can you launch the Certificate Authority MMC or what ever it is called in Windows Server 2008 and click around in it on the little yellow folders on the left that say Issued Certificates, Pending Requests, etc? I don't want to offend you I am just asking all the basic questions as I have seen guys on here who jump in at all different steps of the implementation process and assume certain things exist by default.

See if one of the two solutions in this thread work, and please reply success/failure.
