2nd DC isn't visible
I've installed a new 2008R2 DC, planning to replace and old 2003 server (with the same name and IP). When I go to demote the old unit, it claims it's the last DC. I've gone through DNS line by line, and both servers are identical in everyway and they both include both servernames in the various entries. An ipcofig/all on either machine only shows the original server for DNS. I don't hace DHCP running onthe new server yet. If I try to add the new server, I can find it in AD, but when I select it, it says "the server you specified cannot be located". Might be related? I did do a ipconfig /registerdns onthe new machine based on another thread. Any ideas? I'm not a real IT guy, so don't assume anything!

I noticed my adapter setting pointed to just the old DNS, so I changed the settings on both to include both servers. ipconfig/all not does show both servers for DNS, but same problem exists with trying to demote.

Just to be sure, each DC has its own IP address, right? Validate replication On any DC run: repadmin /syncall <DCNAME> then verify replication with repadmin /replsum <DCNAME> Replace <DCNAME> with the name of each DC. The results should be successful. if results aren't successful run repadmin /kcc <DCNAME> and repeat. Also make sure the appropriate ports are open on each DC. This is basic replication troubleshooting. Also check the event viewer and post any relevant errors here.

Both DCs say "The RPC server is unavailable" to the /syncall function. Both /kcc's say "Consistency check on <> successful."

I started the RPCLocator service on both controllers (was "manual" and off). No change to RPC server unavailable.

Here's my DCDIAG /TEST:DNS report. I removed much of it that passed or was omitted to get the post size down to the maximum. 123.2 is my old (working) server 123.12 is my new server It looks like there's a lot wrong. I followed the articles on migration pretty carefully, I thought. --------------------------- Directory Server Diagnosis Performing initial setup: Doing initial required tests Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\CCFP-SERVER Starting test: Connectivity * Active Directory LDAP Services Check Determining IP4 connectivity * Active Directory RPC Services Check ......................... Troubleshooting "The RPC server is unavailable" http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/4494.troubleshooting-the-rpc-server-is-unavailable.aspx Also, Is the time and date on each server the same? On the server with the 192.168.123.12 ip address on the network adapter disable ipv6 then do an ipconfig /registerdns and net stop netlogon && net start netlogon.
