2012 Cluster replicaion to single DR host replicaion failed 0x00002F78

We have a 2012 - 3 Node Cluster that we are tying to setup replication to our DR site with a single server. We believe we have everything configured correctly but are getting an error when we configure the Guest itself for replication.

Once the wizard completes the error states " Enabling Replication Failed. Hyper-v failed to enable replication. Hyper-V failed to enable replication for virtual machine ...: The server returned an invalid or unrecognized response (0x00002F78). (Virtual machine ID ........)

The strange part is if we move the VM to a particular cluster member it works as expected. All 3 cluster nodes have the same configuration, hardware, patches etc... Cluster Validation wizard says we are OK. The logs are not showing much that is useful and searching for the error code is getting no hits.

any suggestions?

I would start by checking the network configuration. Can you provide some info on how this is configured?

Hi TechGuy,

Hyper-v Failover cluster need to first configure a "Hyper-v Replica Broker" role then enable Hyper-v Replica.

"With a failover cluster of Hyper-V hosts in place, one needs to first configure a Hyper-V Replica Broker role using Failover Cluster Manager. Then enable Hyper-V Replica on the Hyper-V Replica Broker." this sentence quote from the following link:

Also the below link refer to Hyper-v Replica :

Hope it helps.

Hi,

Can you help me understand this statement "if we move the VM to a particular cluster member it works as expected." - if the VM is on one of the nodes (say N1), then replication works but if the VM is on N2 or N3, then the replication fails?

Few follow up questions:

- What is the authentication scheme which is being used - is it Kerberos or certificate based authentication?

- Have you created the Hyper-V Replica broker on your primary cluster?

- What is the authorization table entry in the replica server? Does it contain a server name or does it contain the Hyper-V Replica Broker name (it should be the latter)

- Can you double check if the network listener is running on the replica standalone server by issuing the following command: netsh http show servicestate | findstr -i hvrroot
