With 1 standard 2008 r2 license, on how many virtual machines can the license be used.

Hi, 1 licence = 1 installed copy (Virtual or physical does not matter) You may install Server 2008 on other VM's or Physical machines in unlicensed mode which will give you a demo-like mode for some days before it requires activation, this would be the best way to proceed if you wish to test before purchasing. If you require more than one installation I would recommend you discuss volume licensing with a local Microsoft Retail Partner or Licence Partner. Kind Regards, MartinIf you find my information useful, please rate it. :-)

Hi, It's the same rule as you run it on Windows virtualization product such as Hyper-V. By the way, you can check the following post. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/windowsserver2008r2general/thread/d6f7386f-0e17-49df-b7d9-72db8ad94e06 Best Regards, Vincent Hu

We've recently looked into this and i believe 1 2008 R2 Enterprise licence will cover the O/s of the Host and 4 Virtual machines. 2008 Standard will cover 1 host and 1 Virtual 2008 Data centre is per processer (Not core) and you can have unlimited guests. We bought 2 data centre per host and now can run unlimited on each server. But its always worth checking with the MS experts
