2008 dcpromo issue
I'm working on a WAN where connectivity issues tombstoned a 2008 (running service pack 2) DC. In an attempt to repair this, I ran a dcpromo /forceremoval and also removed DNS and the AD binaries for a fresh start. Re-booted, installed the binaries, then dcpromo'd the server. All appeared to work correctly - I watched as it copied over OU's etc. The following day, I noticed that there was no replication between this server and the rest of the network. The NTDS settings in ADS&S was missing. I was unable to manually fix this, so I tried the entire process again - still no joy. At least before this issue, the West coast DC's could update this server in Virgina, but not VA to West coast - now there is nothing either way. Anyone seen this before and have some helpfull input?

You need to provide more information about the issue. Please post IPCOFNIG/ALL from your new DC and old DC here or Skydrive. Did you preform DCDIAG? Please post the output of DCDIAG onto Skydrive. Hello, as Santhosh said, please provide some more information: ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt [from each DC/DNS Server] dcdiag /v /c /d /e /s:dcname >c:\dcdiag.txt repadmin /showrepl dc* /verbose /all /intersite >c:\repl.txt ["dc* is a place holder for the starting name of the DCs if they all begin the same (if more then one DC exists)] dnslint /ad /s "DCipaddress" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321045) As the output will become large, DON'T post them into the thread, please use Windows Sky Drive (skydrive.live.com) [with open access!] and add the link from it here. Also the /e in dcdiag scans the complete forest, so better run it on COB.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Hi, Please also perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue: 1.Use the following knowledgebase to remove common Domain Controller settings from the Active Directory. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216498 Note 1: : You may need to seize the FSMO to alternative Domain Controller Using Ntdsutil.exe to transfer or seize FSMO roles to a domain controller http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255504 Note 2: You may need to configure a new authoritative timerver in the domain. 2. Remove old computer account by using "Active Directory Sites and Services" tool. 3. Remove old DNS and WINS records of the orphaned Domain Controller. 4. Use "ADSIEdit" to remove old computer records from the Active Directory: a. OU=Domain Controllers,DC=domain,DC=local b. CN=Default-First-Site-Name,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=local c. CN=Domain System Volume (SYSVOL share),CN=File Replication Service,CN=System,DC=domain,DC=local 5. Force Active Directory replication by using "Repadmin.exe" tool: Using Repadmin.exe to troubleshoot Active Directory replication http://support.microsoft.com/kb/229896/ Forum Support Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help. It now appears that this was caused by a problem with the permissions with the enterprise admin credentials. I've created a new enterprise admin and am trying it from that direction. I'll update the thread again when I have this working.
