2008 R2 Not detecting Network
I have had a job dropped on me and I am really struggling. I have just installed Win2008 R2 on a DL380 G4. Everything seems to be OK. However, we have a router, into a hub which is ethernet into the DL380. The DL380 cannot connect to the network. I have absolutely no idea where to start. I have checked the obvious, cables OK, drivers there etc etc. My aim is for the DL380 to be able to see the internet so I can Teamviewer or RDC into it. Can anyone give me a link to a step by step guide, or the areas I need to be looking at. Like I say, I have googled but all the links seem to come up with trying to set the 2008 UP as a DHCP server, which is not what I want to do. Essentially it is to be just another machine hanging on the network, which just happens to be running 2008 Many thanks in advance WOW! No replies despite several views. I never knew that this was such a difficult task. If everything falls down on the first step what is it going to be like if there are problems!

I cannot believe this! From the box 2008 cannot connect to a network that is broadcasting DHCP! It has to be the 2008 settings, but the question is where and what are the settings I should be looking at? I spend all day working on boolean logic and ladder, this stuff is way more weird than that! 2008 for Dummies is at my side and even that just glosses over setting up networks, it just assumes a Dummy knows where to set it up! In this case this means I am Dumber than a Dummy!

I have just been discussing this with a colleague who said "why o why are you using Micro$h1t?" Because I need to run SAGE Accounts which is not available under Linux. "Simples" he replies! "SUSE on the server, make a VM machine, load XP on it and voila! Saves a fortune on Licence fees, you get a scaleable solution with quick helpful support." Not sure says I. "I will have it done by 6" he says. The bet is he cannot have it all up and running by 6. My money was on this support forum, which is moderated by Microsoft providing a solution almost immediately. All in all, a neat solution, for a fraction of the cost of a Microsoft Server "solution" as it did not solve it at all! So one copy of 2008 goes on ebay and I get to spend that on More RAM! Double Bubble ;-) 20 mins to go!

This is now solved! SUSE up and running. VM machine running XP, upon which we are now running SAGE. Multiple users, all very seamless. What can I say. Linux all the way! Microsoft in the bin! (ebay actually but you get the drift!)
