2003 Server folder Permissions
Started having many issues over past month with 2003 Server R2 SP2... Several Directories have started to lose NTFS permissions and revert to default Administrators & System only Turning on Auditing it seems is a worthless adventure when there is a KB Article Explaining the issue in detail. however I need to get access to the hotfix to resolve the issue that it seems MS Created... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913034 Found from a similarly not happy article in 2007. I update the servers with Security updates every 1-2 Months so I usually don't apply patches Immediately but some are done immediately. http://www.infoworld.com/d/adventures-in-it/windows-security-update-roulette-470 My Permissions however are being re-set without reboots it seems... although I did reboot last night and some new folders are experiencing this issue now so it is possible that a reboot is causing the issues.

Was wondering why I couldn't find that.... Sound about right though ... Can't find something that simple... geez... Thanks for your keen eyes... looked at the shadow copy from 3am before the reboot and still had the issues... possible that a reboot a couple of weeks ago caused the issue. My Storage array is about 850gb and was pretty full (~50gb free) Now I've archived out ~250gb and now have ~300gb free (also using ~100/150gb for Shadow copies as well) Will apply hotfix and see what happens... Kinda not happy that a patch caused this behavior... I've got all the SPs and updates applied within 30-90 days of release.... not a happy camper at the moment. Only time I can recall this happening on my own was when I was having some other issues I ran a chkdsk /R and saw it replacing security descriptors on 500-1500 files it seemed... apparently though it was mixed and across the array in different spots... Some Folder Level others File level Folder fixed and files had to tell parent folders to re-apply permissions to children...
