2003 Server R2 SP2 (Enterprise Edition) Hangs at Applying Computer Settings
We have a Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition operating as our DC and Exchange Server. In the past few days the Desktop of this server began behaving badly: Icons not loading correctly the Start Bar would not respond to any mouse commands. The only way to get any thing to run from the desktop was via Task Manager. All the services are running and operating correctly and Exchange is working, you just can't do anything on the desktop (unless you use Run from the Task Manager) Anyway, last night I rebooted the machine to Safe Mode and found the exact same issues there. When I rebooted again to get out of Safe mode the machine is stuck at "Applying Computer Settings". It's been like this for nearly 24 hours. The DC is working and Exchange is working but no load of the Desktop. I could really use a few suggestions on fixing this issue without having to rebuild the entire system. It would just be a mess trying to rebuild Exchange in the current system state. Thanks Randy

Hi, Please have a look at the following articles: http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2009/09/23/so-you-have-a-slow-logon-part-1.aspx http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2009/09/23/so-you-have-a-slow-logon-part-2.aspx Meanwhile, please understand that it is not recommended to run Exchange Server on a domain controller without Small Business Server. For more information, please refer to: This Exchange server is also a domain controller, which is not a recommended configuration http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997407(EXCHG.80).aspx Regards, Bruce
