Hello Everyone, I currently have a laptop and I have a 2003 Server R2 and my laptop is joined to the domain. Every time I take my laptop out of the office or bring it back in, I have to configure the DNS IP address so that I am able to access the server or access the internet on my home WIFI. The router at my office is just a standard Linksys Wireless N router. My laptop runs Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. My question is there a way that I don't have to manually change my DNS server IP address on every time I come in to work or when I take my laptop home or outside of the network. I am about ready to take my server down, I am tired of this. Thanks!

Hi, May i auggest you to use DHCP to avoid this problem? you can have DHCP server deployed in your 2003 R2 server with the DNS and Gateways settings which will provide you the IP with DNS/Gateway automatically once you plug in to the office netwrok. and home i guess you have DHCP in your DSL/ADSL router that can be configured to provide IP, Gatway and DNS based on home connection. Next best thing is configure additional DNS in IP settings of the PC. Configure primery DNS as office DNS and configure the home connection DNS as addtional DNS. Thamara.

Yes you can by do this by defining the dns server ip address in the dhcp server. If you are getting Automatic ip from the Windows 2003 server acting as a dhcp server then you should edit the setting with in the server http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/dhcp_server_windows_2003.html If your dsl router is acting as a DHCP then you should define the dns ip there. Thank You Thamara and Syed. I installed the DCHP role and followed the link that was posted, I removed the DNS IP from my computer, ipconfig released then renewed and rebooted and it seems to be working. Thank you again for the quick responses!
