2003/Vista Folder Redirection GPO?
I'm trying to enable GPO editing on my 2003 server to support the Vista-specific Folder Redirection policies. Right now in gpedit for my GPO I see the XP-supported ones like Desktop, My Documents, Application Data and Start Menu, but I want to enable it to let me set the 10 folders that Vista allows. The best information I can find on this is that you have to load some kind of Vista-specific GPMC toolset on a Vista client machine and then manage your 2003 domain policies from there. I have more details on this bookmarked for further reading, but my question is that I thought I read somewhere that there was an MMC snap-in for Vista-specific GPO editing that you could load on the 2003 server so you can do your Vista-specific policies from the 2003 server's GPMC/gpedit. Can somebody confirm the correct method? Also does Windows 7 also have a different method? I am not managing any Win7 clients yet with domain GPO's but that will probably change very soon, so it will be a 2003 server with a few Win7 test clients. Thank you!

You must install Remote Server Administration Tools on a Windows Vista machine, add the Group Policy Management feature, and then you can edit the GPO and have all the Vista specific options in the Folder Redirection part of the GPO. You find Remote Server Administration Tools at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=9FF6E897-23CE-4A36-B7FC-D52065DE9960&displaylang=enBlogging about Windows for IT pros at www.theexperienceblog.com

Hi, Yes, what Andreas mentioned is a method the could help you to modify Vista-based policies and update to 2003 based domain controller ,so that you can distribute it for Vista-based clients in your network. And of course extend 2003 domain policies could help you to achieve the goal. I ‘d suggest you to read the articles below, it might answer your question: Managing Group Policy ADMX Files Step-by-Step Guide: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc709647(WS.10).aspx Administrative Templates (.admx) for Windows Vista http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=05d0598b-95f9-4bdd-af36-b365d68ec5f6&DisplayLang=en Deploying Group Policy Using Windows Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766208(WS.10).aspx TechNet Webcast: Group Policy in Windows Vista (Level 200) https://msevents.microsoft.com/cui/WebCastEventDetails.aspx?culture=en-US&EventID=1032292774&CountryCode=US And here is an old thread : ADMX and Server 2003 http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserversecurity/thread/0a9124d8-6c91-442d-8564-cb92164386d0 Thanks.
