I have the following: Windows Server 2003 R2 32-bit Standard with SP2 and the latest patches (domain controller) Exchange Server 2007 SP1 setup media Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit Standard with SP1 (member of W2k3 domain) - trial OS My simple question is how do I install Exchange Server 2007 SP1 on Windows Server 2008? Some say that the above combo isn't supported and I would need Exchange Server 2007 SP3 to have it run on W2k8 R2 machine. Is that correct? Problem is I don't have Exchange Server 2007 SP3 setup media. Help please.

You do not need SP1 or SP2 first. As quoted in the second link: "Clean installations of Exchange 2007 SP3 on a new server are possible by using this download in the same manner as you would install Exchange 2007 RTM, Exchange 2007 SP1 or Exchange 2007 SP2." This is a full "Trial" version of Exchange 2007. This means you will have Exchange Standard Edition functionality for free for up to 120 days. Yes, I read that quote. As a matter of fact I have used that download (E2K7SP3EN64.exe) to install Exchange 2007 SP3 on a fresh W2k8 R2 SP1 machine. Exchange Server SP3 setup completed successfully in 5 minutes (that's too fast, I think). However, I ended up with no Exchange server at the end of installation. That is why I wondered if I needed SP1 or SP2 first. It may also be the fact that I had previously installed and removed Exchange Server 2007 with SP1 on that same box. I wiped out the whole setup (formatted and reinstalled Windows Server 2008 R2 w/ SP1). Will give it another try and see how it goes this time. Is Exchange SP3 setup smart enough to check all prerequisites (IIS 6/7, AD schema updates etc) are in place? Exchange BPA (2007 readiness test) doesn't show any error. I am having a tough time finding specific documentation for my environment (Win2003 R2 Active Directory, Win2008 R2 member server hosts Exchange 2007 SP3). Additional Info: I have completed Exchange Server 2007 SP3 installation on a fresh installed Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 machine. Setup completed successfully.
