word 2013 keeps crashing

I just install Office 2013.

When I open Word, as soon as I try to create a blank page, word crashes.

Also, if I try to open a pre-existing document, appears a list as if it hadn't being saved properly (last time), which by the way, I dont have any document saved in Word 2013, and crashes as well.

Any ideas?

Let's try to narrow down the root cause with the following methods:

1.

Try disable all the add-ins to see if this behavior could be caused by the 3rd-party add-ins, if this behavior won't occur with all the add-ins disabled, we can enable them one by one to find out which one might caused the problem.

2.

Try repair your Office as a quick fix

3.

Try start Word in safe mode to see if this behavior will still occur, if this behaivor won't occur in safe mode, the behavior might be caused by certain items that are loaded with Word, try follow the instructions in the following support article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541

4.

Try configure Windows in clean boot mode to check if this behavior could be caused by the 3rd-party services, if this behavior won't occur in clean boot mode, try follow the instructions in the How to determine what is causing the problem by performing a clean boot section in the following support article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Max, thank you for your answer.

I followed step 3, was able to access to word under "safe mode". In which case, Word seems to run "normal" (the little I used it.

By the other hand, if I open Word in "Normal mode", displays many files listed as "recent used" which do not belong there, at the same time, prompts me to the "files to recover" or saved unproperly. My feeling is that is what is corrupted. How do I clean tem up?

Regrading step 4, I dont know which services I should have active.

I called Microsoft and they were for 2 hours on my computer, and also installing word more than once, since the first attempt didn't work either, and they had no other option than uninstall it completely (which I had done already) and reinstall it.

The end result. I have a working Word.

Thanks everybody who helped on this issue.

This is not an option. Not everyone has the ability to start in safe mode. This version of Windows does not have that option.

Try again.

Whenever I started Word in safe mode, I was able to work, but couldn't fix the problem from there.

When I got Microsoft Tech support, they uninstalled the entire Office and had to re-install it, however it didn't go so smooth.

In my opinion, there is a unresolved issue with the installation

Same here. I understand they were rushing to compete with Google drive but I still wonder how a comapny with 30,000+ staff could not find a single person for testing one of their flagship products? That's why I avoid Microsoft when and where possible...

I was having this exact issue.  For me, I fixed it by disabling a specific add-on called "ABVY ABBYY FinerReader 9.0 Sprint MSWord".   This Add-On was installed with my Printer and is used to translate scanned documents into 'Word' text.  If you have this plugin, simply start Word 2013 is safe mode, open a blank document, got to "File->Options->Add-Ins->Go", and disable "FineReader 9.0".  Voila.

Had issues with Word & Excel crashing on startup, checked my computer and I had "ABVY ABBYY FinerReader 9.0 Sprint MSWord" installed. After removing that program, word no longer crashes.

This solution will work regardless of changes to add-ins changes to equipment etc.

Windows 8.1 Click the windows key, type in "word" without quotation marks. right click the Word 2013 icon and choose open file location.

You should now be in a folder with a load of shortcuts. Right click the word icon, choose properties then in the properties tab that pops up choose the compatibility tab, go to the bottom of this tab and click change settings for all users, in the new pop up window put a tick to run as an administrator and Enable this program to work with One Drive files (if you use One Drive) click apply and okay, shut the properties window.

Double click the Word icon then choose open new file all should now be working.
