where is sql query analyzer in 2008 standard
I had SQL Srvr 2008 Compact and bought 2008 Standard R2 with 5 CALS. After downloading the software from the volume licensing center (seems that CDW no longer ships media for MS, that is another issue), I installed 2008, rebooted, looked at the startup menu, and noticed that nothing had changed. I search for "isqlw.exe" and did not find it on my system. The main reason for buying the 2008 Standard was to have the full version instead of the compact version which should have given me more capabilities and tools. Specifically, Query Analyzer and database modification on the fly. So the question is, where is the query analyzer? and please dont tell me that Microsoft was stupid enough to split out the tools into something else. If that is the case than I think I will completely give up on MS and go with Unix/oracle.

The isql utility was a discontinued feature already in SQL Server 2005. It is replaced by the sqlcmd utility (or osql for backward compatibility). These executables are by default located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn. Btw, this is an Exchange forum. Sorry, read too fast. There is no separate SQL Query Analyzer anymore. It's integrated with SQL Server Management Studio. Click New Query.MCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M
