what is the best practice for transitioning from Exchange 2003 (front & back end) to 2010
We currently in process to make a transition from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 and Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 . We have three main sites, head office with more than 350 users, Central Region site with 250 users and Western Region site with also 250 users. We also have 2 domain controllers, two exchange servers (front and back end) and a Symantec Vault server in each site, with the exception that Western Region site has only a back end exchange server. 1- what do i have to know and to be aware of before i start. 2- what is the best practice to transition exchange in this situation.

Please ensure that bring the exchange 2003 organization to exchange native mode and upgrade all exchange 2003 servers to exchange server 2003 sp2. Please bring AD forest and domains to Windows server 2003 Functional levels. And then you could migrate your exchange server 2003 to exchange 2010 according to deployment documents as above said. After moving all the mailboxes and public folders of Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010, please leave the Exchange 2003 infrastructure in place for a couple (2) weeks. If you have any problems during the process please let us know.
