Hi I assume that you mean Exchange 2010, You should start be finding out why you have this error: "Active Directory does not exist or cannot be contacted" Can you ping a domain controller by fqdn? Is the exchange server using the DC as DNS server? Leif

Hi, Then how did you install Exchange server - installation is not possible without a domain (and the same goes for uninstallation as you have seen) Leif

Hi, If there is really no active directory a format of the server would be the easiest solution. I don't believe that there is a step by step solution for complerely removing Exchange server 2010 from a server. Leif

I would check to with your AD team, is the Exch server in a workgroup or joined to a domain that no longer exists? In either case, it wont functions, so a format is really only the way, you can't uninstall as there's no information in AD (as you say there isn;t a domain).Sukh

We cannot change AD role on a server running Exchange server. So, we cannot make the server to be domain controller again, and vice versa. Fiona Liao TechNet Community Support

Hi, if you don't want to format the server, you need to recover the server (as if it is a lost server) and after you will can uninstall exchange. You need to do: 1) Reset the computer account for the server in the ad domain (verify that the account exists and that it has the same name of your server) 2) Join the server with the same name ed os to the same domain 3) Verify that the pre-requirements are installed 4) Recover the server using the command Setup /m:RecoverServer You can find more information here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876880
