unable to remove management tools from exchange server 2007 SP1 on SBS server 2008 64-bit
I need to remove exchange server 2007 sp1 from a sbs 2008 64-bit server, as they use a POP server for mail collection, and i want to make the server as slimline as possible without any additional services not needed running. Have managed to remove all the server roles except management tools. When i go into add/remove programs to uninstall exchange server 2007 sp1, the management tools role is selected, but it is greyed out, and i cannot de-select or clear the box to remove the role. When i hit next, it asks to please select an existing server role to uninstall.I have tried the Windows Installer utility to no effect. Have also tried command prompt, navigating to the %programfiles%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\bin directory and ran Setup.com /mode:uninstall /role:ManagementTools without any success, and displays > Welcome to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unattended Setup. Preparing Exchange Setup. The following server roles will be removed. Please specify an existing server role(s) to uninstall. Exchange Server setup encountered an error.Have also tried to use the Windows Installer command msiexec using the exchange server 2007 ProductCode (found by browsing the web for this error) by hitting the start button and pasting inMsiExec.exe /X {24B2C164-DE66-44FE-B468-A46D9D5E6B31}which then asks me if i wish to uninstall this product > select yes > and a popup tells me that this action is only valid for products that are currently installed.Have pasted below what the ExchangeSetup.log file is: (changing domain and server names to MyDomain, etc)(am also using the administrator account and have added Enterprise Admins role)[23/02/2010 4:25:32 PM] [0] Starting Microsoft Exchange 2007 Setup[23/02/2010 4:25:32 PM] [0] **********************************************[23/02/2010 4:25:32 PM] [0] Operating System version: Microsoft Windows NT 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1.[23/02/2010 4:25:32 PM] [0] Setup version: 8.1.240.6.[23/02/2010 4:25:32 PM] [0] Logged on user: MyDomain\MyUser.[23/02/2010 4:25:32 PM] [0] Command Line Parameter Name='mode', Value='Uninstall'.[23/02/2010 4:25:32 PM] [0] ExSetupUI was started with the following command: '-mode:uninstall'.[23/02/2010 4:25:32 PM] [0] Setup is choosing the domain controller to use[23/02/2010 4:25:32 PM] [0] Setup is choosing a local domain controller...[23/02/2010 4:25:33 PM] [0] Setup has chosen the local domain controller MYSERVER.MyDomain.local for initial queries[23/02/2010 4:25:33 PM] [0] PrepareAD has either not been run or has not replicated to the domain controller used by Setup. Have you tried installing a Role? For example the CAS role, and then once installed, rebooting and trying the un-install process again. You could also manually tidy the server up, by removing %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\, and then removing the key HKLM\software\Microsoft\Exchange in the Registry. You can use a third party utility to tidy up Add/Remove programs. Also ratify that SBS doesn't use this key at all.I would recommend installing a role then rebooting and un-installing first however.Oliver Oliver Moazzezi | Exchange MVP, MCSA:M, MCTS:Exchange 2010, BA (Hons) Anim | http://www.exchange2007.com | http://www.exchange2010.com | http://www.cobweb.com |
