I'm unable to open excel files send as an attachment.

i'm using outlook webapp and excel 2013.

all i get is a grey sheet.

word en ppt files open fine.

This issue might be caused by some factors. Did you get any error message when open the excel files from OWA?

Please try the following methods and check they are helpful.

1) Cick Excel Options, and then click Advanced. Under the General tab, click to clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) option, and then click OK. 

2) Wen you use Windows Internet Explorer 7 or an earlier version of Internet Explorer to access Outlook Web Access. This issue occurs because of a limitation in Internet Explorer 7 and in earlier versions of Internet Explorer.

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:

• Use Internet Explorer 8 to access Outlook Web Access. Internet Explorer 8 supports opening file names of up to 2,083 UTF-8 encoded characters.

• Ask the sender to rename the Excel attachment using a shorter file name and then to resend it. For example, ask the sender to use a file name that is less than thirteen double-byte character set characters.
