store.exe high mem usage or not?
Hi, I have a server which has been reported as running slowly. Looking into it it seems that the server is ticking along quite well, the memory usage isn't at maximum and the CPU is mostly just ticking over. It has been noticed by an onsite contact looking in Task Manager that the store.exe process is using upwards of 900,000k of memory and she believes that this is causing her problems, since nothing else is using more than about 90,000k. I can see where she's coming from because that does seems a big difference, but then store.exe is handlingthe largest chunk of data(14G IS)on the server so perhaps it's not outlandish. For comparison I've had a look at a few other installations we have and store.exe is using less resource on them, but has smaller information stores. For example 700,000 for an 11G IS or 213,000 for a 4G IS or 108,000 for a 1G IS. At a very rough and ready approximation it seems to methe bigger the IS, the more memory is uses, which frankly makes sense. Anyway, all of that said my question is simple. What should I expect these values to be? My onsite contacthas had an issue with a slow application, looked in Task Manager seen what seems to be a big numberand jumped to a conclusion that store.exe is causing her issue. Idon't thinkit is the right conclusion, which makes me suspect she's looking in the wrong place to resolve her problem. However, when I try to find any articles about how much I expect these values to be I am turning up nothing. Perhaps I'm searching on the wrong things, but if I could just turn round and say yes that's what I'd expect with an IS of 14G and here's a Microsoft article explaining it then I think we could rule this out and get back to finding what's actually wrong. Sorry that's a bit long winded, but can anyone give me any suggestions on this?

Well the high memusage is normal, as store.exe will consume memory to cache part of it's databases... Performance issues can be quite hard to pinpoint. In my experience when users report slow response from the server and cpu & mem usage seems fine on first sight, start looking at the disk I/O.... It is not handy to get into howto troubleshoot Exchange performance as there is a excellent guide from MS for that. Thanks, that's great. I thought it was about right, but I couldn't find anything which proved it. It's nice to have confirmation. Cheers.
