some issue with rpc over http validports regkey ...
Hi there, We're using exchange 2007 and trying to configure the RPC over HTTP. I found a very useful article here: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2008/06/20/449053.aspx The rpc should work ok, BUT because we have such a strange setup, we need to modify the ValidPorts and PeriodicPollingMinutes registry key as advised on the article above. Now, my question is: on the part that says "... the other part of what the RpcHttpConfigurator servicelet does it that is queries the AD for all mailbox servers and stamps them in the ValidPorts regkey allowing access to ports 6001, 6002, 6004 for both FQDN and Netbios access" How / what kind of data is this "mailbox servers"? is it the mx record in AD? basically the way we set up our mail server is that we use a completely different name (and domain name) for internal and external access, which of course point to the same server: - internal = exch.private.com - external = mail.company.com so ... when we put in mail.company.com on our outlook client, the exch server never recognize that entry and the connection is dropped. (mail.company.com is not listed under the ValidPorts regkey) if it is the MX record, how do I add this mail.company.com to point to our exch.private.com and listed under the ValidPorts regkey? Sorry if it's a bit confusing but I tried not to make too many changes on the registry. thank you for your advice.
