setup /prepareschema etc. doesn't seem to be working.. Please help!
Hello All, I'm trying to re-run the setup /prepare switches and they don't seem to be working the way I think they should be. Can somebody take a look at this screenshot and tell me if that looks right? switches in cmd prompt Sorry if there is a different way to put pictures up here, I didn't see any other options.

Hi, By seeing your screen shot its looking that you are running setup from profile , not from directory where exchange 2010 setup file is. Please use cmdlet "setup.com /PrepareSchema" . Please go in detail thru below KB. Prepare Active Directory and Domains: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125224.aspx Anil

I have run setup.com /PrepareSchema cmdlet through the EMS and got the exact same result. Here's another 2 screenshots: switches in cmd from directory where exchange 2010 setup file is cmdlet in EMS Am I still doing something wrong here?

I have a question. Why are you running the setup.com in the directory where Exchange is installed? I would suggest to extract the setup files in a temp directory and then run it from there. Also, you should run the /schema on the DC that holds the schema master role.

please clear the temp directory, then run the setup from the files extracted from DVD or the downloaded file. by the way you should /prepareschema should be run only once in a forest and /preparedomain once per domain, please check the following to see if you really need to run above switeches http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd877014(EXCHG.140).aspx and http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125224.aspx if you already have the modifications as listed in these artilces you need not run these switches again Dhruv

Just tried cleaning out my temp directory and running the setup from files extracted from DVD and I am still getting the exact same result. The reason that I need to run the switch again is because I was having an issue where OAB was not being generated properly, I posted on these forums looking for a solution and somebody suggested that I look at another thread which was answered and had a issue pretty much the same as mine. The accepted solution was to delete the all address lists and the offline address lists object through ADSIedit and then rerun the prepare switch. I did so, tried to run the prepare switches again and this is where I am.

Thank you, tried running the switch from a local gc and it worked for me. I was just about to put in a ticket with Microsoft when I read your post so you have saved me a lot of trouble.

Hi, Sorry if there is a different way to put pictures up here, I didn't see any other options. You use SkyDrive to upload collected files and post screen shot/picture: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/4fc10639-02db-4665-993a-08d865088d65 Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. Thanks Gen Lin-MSFT

Are you an enterprise/exchange admin?

Yes, I am the admin, is there a reason you're asking? This problem has been solved although I'm not able to run the switches from our actual exchange server which seemed odd to me.
