sending email to addresses in global catalog fails

Recent install of Exchange 2013. Some users can't send email to other users (including themselves) in the global catalog. The email bounces back and the address show the OU, and the other unit addresses, not the email address. We use companyname.net for our domain but companyname.com is used for sending/receiving email via Outlook 2013. Configured as outlook anywhere.

If we send the mail to the .net address, it works OK but to the .com address, it fails. Again, not all users are affected.

Seems like it's showing the LegacyDN? Can you post the full NDR and/or screenshot of the address just to be sure?

That's indeed the LegacyExchangeDN. Follow the instructions in this article to clear the Outlook name cache and populate the LegacyExchangeDN as X500 proxy address: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2807779

Thanks, good article. We had actually (almost) been doing that, refusing to let the auto complete take over. It is such a small number of users affected, that the manual process is all we needed.

Thanks again, great site here.

Hi Lou,

As Vasil L. Michev suggested, you can clear the auto-complete cache file or create an X500 proxy address for the old LegacyExchangeDN attribute for problematic users for troubleshooting.

Is there any update with your issue?

Best regards,
