send message size and keep deleted items
Hi, I'm using the exchange 2003 in our company. I feel confused when adjusting the settings on EMS and ADUC as followed: 1. If I set differnet liminition about send message size in EMS and ADUC, which one will be overwriten? 2. the same behavior on the "keep deleted items" Thanks.

If you make the changes in AD its getting affected on Exchange Attributes, hence it's changing in. Exchange. If you do it from ESM you are doing directly from Exchange. ADUC has all the attributes of Exchange Server, what ever changes you are going to do it will reflect and affect the exchange. What is your concern? Hi Gulab, Please let me give you a sample: I set the send message size 5000 KB in ESM (Message Delivery), but the same option is set to 8000 KB in ADUC. Which one is the exact size will affect to end user? Thanks.

It will depend on where the message is being sent, internal or external. The below expalins. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322679Sukh

Hi Sukh, Thanks for your article. According to the article, the size 5000KB will affect when sending the external email, and 8000KB only affects in internal transport. Is it right? Thanks.

Hi Jay, Regarding to the article, ADUC setting can override ESM setting. It means that 8000KB will take effect when you send and receive mails. But some colleagues tested it and discover something else, it is Global setting is the most effective setting compare with other settings. Take you scenario as an example, because Global setting has been set to 5000KB, even though ADUC set another 8000KB, but Global setting is more effective and will restrict mail size to 5000KB other than 8000KB. But no official document. Need more test I think. Just for your reference. Best Regards! Correct. Unless there are other restrictions in place such as on connectors or virtual servers which I dont think you have in your env.Sukh

Hi, Do you know when we should use the SMTP virtual server to set message size? I can not find answer based on my search. Many thanks in advance.
