send as a distribution list? - EXCH2003
Hello, We are trying to get send as a distribution list to work. I have created a distribution list and given myself "send as" permissions to the list in ADUC. I waited until it was populated in the address book. Once it was populated I changed my from address to the name of the DL and tried to send a message to myself but it did not work. The message blackholed. Did not get a bounce back and did not see it in message tracking. I also turned on diagnostic logging to the max on MSExchangeIS/SA/MTA and they didn't show anything. Anyone have any ideas on how we could get this to work? Thanks in advance.

Are you using Exchange 2003? NO Exchange 2007 management should be done in ADUC. You must use Powershell or the Exchange Management Console. I realize this is just a permission, but I'd stick to the rules to play it safe. Also, you mention waiting for the address list. this is not related... For E2k7 Use: Code Snippet Set-DistributionGroup -Identity "DLName" -GrantSendOnBehalfTo USERNAME

I am using Exchange 2003. When I use Outlook 2007 it doesn't work at all. I tested with Outlook 2003 today and it works but when you goto sent items it shows as "sent on behalf of". Any ideas on how to get this to work properly with sending as a distribution list on Exchange 2003? Or is it just not possible?

See the section about 1/3 of the way down, called "Sending as a Group or Public Folder"

Yes.. that's how I have it setup but it still doesn't work. From Outlook 2007 it never hits exchange. From Outlook 2003 it shows up as "send on behalf of". Do we possibly have something misconfigured on the exchange server?

Hi, I suggest we create a test user, then give it send as permission on distribution group, the process you can refer to below outline: 1. Start the Active Directory Users and Computers management console. 2. On the View menu, make sure that the Advanced Features option is selected. If this option is not selected, the Security page will not be visible for domain and container objects. 3. Locate the distribution group in question, for example, Mortgage Wholesale, and open its properties. 4. Switch to the Security tab. 5. Click Add, type the name of the non-admin user you want to grant rights to, and click OK. 6. Check Allow - Send As in the permissions list, and click OK. 7. Wait a moment for AD replication to occur, then test the result from the Outlook client. Note: You can run gpupdate command in cmd to speed up the relication process. After that, please test this issue. Thanks Allen

Still doesn't seem to work. I'll try it again tomorrow. But again same problem. Message is in sent items but cannot be found in message tracking.
