reset retention policy recursively
I have a user that moved the search folder "All Items" to deleted items. Now all their inbox and sub folders are picking up the deleted folder policy. I have removed the search view it would not allow me to copy or restore so I had to remove it. I can individually (folder by folder) fix the issue if select all messages in outlook 2010 in a specific folder and set policy to use parent policy. But it does not appear to to let me choose say the inbox and do the same. I have tried Set-RetentionPolicy -Identity USER -whatif But that does not work. Michael

I have a user that moved the search folder "All Items" to deleted items. Hi Michael, I try to reproduce the issue, but Outlook doesn't let me move the "All Items" search folder to Deleted Items folder. Anyhow, about your question: Now all their inbox and sub folders are picking up the deleted folder policy. ..But it does not appear to to let me choose say the inbox and do the same. If you create a new retention policy contains Inbox RPT, and apply it to the user, will it be helpful? The "deleted folder policy" will be overwritten by the new policy. I created a new search folder and grouped the items by date and removed the conversation view I than selcted all the messages (2700 or so) and applied the parent policy. I couldnt easily create a new retention policy due to business rules around changes. MichaelMichael
