replace crashed front end server Exchange Server 2003
We have two front end servers running in our Exchange Server 2003 organisation. One is called the XXX11 and one is called the XXX12. Now the XXX12 is crashed, the disks are broken. All traffic is now going via the XXX11. We have also created a DNS record so the XXX12 is pointing to the IP address of the XXX11, so all references to the XXX12 are still working. But now we want to install a new XXX12, but I am kind of stuck on how I should do this. In AD there are of course still reference to the old/crashed XXX12, in the Exchange Organisation there are still references to the XXX12. So where should I start? Any suggestions/help is really appreciated. Thanks in advance! Olaf

Hi Olafski, You have two options to resolve this situation. 1. You can run setup at failed exchange sevrer using /DisasterRecovery Swicth and then make it stable (It depends upon your Windows 2003 health) and then can remove exchange from Add/remove. Later on install server with same name in AD ENV. 2. You can forcely remove information from AD using ADSI Edit and then can use old name. Unfortunately option 1 is not an option, since the machine is totally wasted. I think I go for option 2 or install a third one and then later remove the non-existing. Thanks for your reply!

As Anil mentioned, if you cannot reinstall the server via /DisasterRecovery, you have to remove the old Exchange server completely and install it on another machine. If there is any progress or question during the setup, please feel free to post it here. Thanks.
