pst file is not a pesonel folders file

Hi,

i have problem with outlook pst archive file.

we store users pst file on their home folders which is a network share folder. one of these users encountered a message "The file h:\Archive2011.pst is not a personel folders file". when we check the pst file we saw its size decreased to 64KB.

i know we cannot recover the file. but i cannot find any clue. is the problem caused by network share usage?

client has windows 7 and outlook 2007wSP3

have you tried repairing the pst file ? If not yet you can do that by following the steps mentioned in the article http://www.softwaredemons.com/how-to-repair-pst-file-in-outlook-using-inbox-repair-tool/

thanks for your answer Timber.

scanpst.exe says pst is corrupted and can successfully recover it. recovered pst becomes 265KB and but there is not any archived mail in it.

and also we sure original pst file is larger than 1GB, outlook overwrote and made pst size to 64 KB.

Hi,

Using a .pst file over a network connection may result in a corrupted .pst file if the connection degrades or fails.

In the situation, if you haven't created a backup schedule on the server, the data might not be recovered. For query regarding server backup, post on the Windows Server Forum.

Try to repair the pst file with some tool sometimes inbox repair tool is not able to repai the pst file but third party tool works well.

Maybe the problem is caused by network share usage or maybe due to something else. If SCANPST.EXE has already been used to fix this with no result, then Outlook user will left with only option: third-party PST repair application. I read about a third-party PST repair application, named as SysInfoTools PST File Repair, in a blog on WordPress. Here is the blog: link.
