problems with outlook...
hey all. let me pre-emptively apologize if this is a stupid question. if you couldn't already tell, i'm new to exchange. i work for a small company that doesn't have a dedicated IT person; my boss only pays one to come in every so often when we do something big. at work my outlook works fine; i can add new employee users and set up their outlook mailboxes. my problem is not being able to configure outlook outside of our domain. while at work i use the local address: servername.domain.local and it works fine. i want to set up outlook on a salesman's laptop and can't figure out the exchange server address to enter. i have searched online and tried all the various suggestions in the threads. the IT guy is on vacation for the holidays and won't be back for 2 weeks. i have the administrator password and can get in to check or change whatever settings necessary. i was hoping someone would have experienced a similar problem or could tell me where in the settings to find the actual address. i'd appreciate anything. thanks in advance for your help...

Did you look into using Exchange over RPC? What version of Outlook and what version of Exchange?Mark Morowczynski|MCT| MCSE 2003:Messaging, Security|MCITP:ES, SA,EA|MCTS:Windows Mobile Admin|Security+|http://almostdailytech.com

hey markmorow. thanks for replying. i hate to sound like a complete beginner, but i'm not familiar with exchange over rpc. we are running sbs 2003 r2, so whatever version of exchange came with it is what we are using--my boss has never upgraded. i believe it is exchange 2003 but you would know better than i. we are using outlook 2007 on all the local computers with exchange configured--our server address is: servername.domain.local. the other problem we have is with certificates. i wasn't there when my boss hired the guy to install and setup everything, buti get certificate errors whenever i do anything--from just remoting in from home to using OWA. normally i can just click the button that says i trust the site and move on; however, with the OWA it prevents me from being able to reply to emails. i can log in and view them, but when i click reply the box pops up with the addresses up top, but the field for the body of the email is blanked off with a small red x. i'd greatly appreciate any help you could lend. i looked for a way to send a pm on here but didn't see it. i could give you my work e-mail that would be easier to communicate. if it's not a huge deal to walk me through it i will pay you; i know your time is valuable. besides the IT guy who did the original work being on vacation for 2 weeks, i'm not a big fan of his and would love to fix it without him!

I would get a real certificate installed on your site to get those errors cleared up. Take a look at these links to get you going. http://www.petri.co.il/how-can-i-configure-rpc-over-https-on-exchange-2003-single-server-scenario.htm http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Outlook_2003_Connect_Exchange_2003.html http://www.netometer.com/video/tutorials/rpc-over-https-exchange-2003-dc-separate-server/Mark Morowczynski|MCT| MCSE 2003:Messaging, Security|MCITP:ES, SA,EA|MCTS:Windows Mobile Admin|Security+|http://almostdailytech.com

Hi,To make Outlook connects Exchange server externally, you need to deploy the RPC over HTTPS based on the Mark's link. For the red X issue in OWA, please try hotfix on the below link:http://support.microsoft.com//kb/911829ThanksAllen
