A 554 error commonly means that you need to set up authentication in your account properties. On the Outgoing Server tab, "My outgoing server requires authentication" and check the box below to use the same credentials.

Go to Tools -> Account Settings. Select the account that you are sending the messege from, then click on change. On the dialog box that opens up there is a button that says "more settings". Click on that and on the Outgoing Server tab, select "my server requires authentication" and select the "use same settings as incomming mail server". Give that a try.
