Over the years I have researched many computer related issues only to find very complicated suggested solutions, such as restoring, reimaging, deleting registries but in the end it is something very simple. My latest issue was that outlook continually was asking for a password to my work exchange account. I would randomly get a pop up and the user name field would already be populated with the one for my work exchange email and the password field would be blank. Keep in mind I was always connected to the exchange server so it was strange that it would ask for a password. No matter how many times I entered the password it would pop up again. I then began to simply cancel it out and continue working but it was really annoying. No IT person I spoke to could figure it out. All of the forums had suggestions to redo the password, remove saved credentials, change the registry and the like. There was no article or Microsoft tech post resolving this and this has apparently been going on a while as many persons had posted and were extremely upset.
So to set the stage, this first occurred when I purchased a window 8 tablet and installed office 2013. The pop up didn't bother me as much as I didn't use the tablet that often. My other 2 laptops are windows 7 with office 2010 but I had no issues with the credential pop up there...until...go daddy, (my other email exchange account), migrated to outlook 365. Now all of a sudden I was getting the credential pop up on all my devices after I had reinstalled my go daddy email account.
Simple solution: after hours with my corporate tech guys and hours of deleting outlook profiles and cresting new windows profiles and all other manner of thins, I through about this for a while and thought, what if, (though the username field has my work username prepopulated), it wasnt the work exchange credentials it was asking for? So I tried the credential for my other exchange account but nothing. Then given the go daddy migration to 365 I tried my windows live account loginand dont you know it.SOLVED!!!
So the simple solution here is; if you have a windows live account, thats the credentials its looking for at least in my case. So to all of you computer wizards out there that want to remove and restore and delete and destroy.its always something simple.
