offline address book missing users and distribution lists
We have an extremely unusual issue with our offline OAB/cached GAL. The online GAL is perfectly fine. In cached exchange mode, the GAL is missing users who's primary SMTP isnt our default domain, and is missing distribution lists. However, if you go to All users or All Groups, both appear fine respectively. I've checked several forum posts, but nothing applies to our situation. I've ensured there's no mismatch between mail/proxyAddress/primary SMTP fields, and verbose OAB logging during a rebuild reveals nothing (missing users do not appear in the logs). New users appear fine (after 24-48 hrs) as long as their domain is the default. The only thing I can think of is recreating the OAB virtual directory... but any other ideas are much appreciated

For the Users/Objects(Groups) that are missing, make sure to check if the "Hide From AddressLists" Option is not selected. Also, you have not specified the version of Exchange & Outlook Clients: If Outlook clients are lesser then Outlook 2007 then the mechanism used for OAB is: Public Folder Distribution Run: Get-GlobalAddressList | UPdate-GlobalAddressList Once done, Get-offlineAddressBook | Update-OfflineAddressBook Download the OAB and check to see if you get any errors when you download. Alternatively, Raise the diagnostics logging for OAB Troubleshooting: Additionally you may check the following below: What is the OAB Generation Server? - Is the web-Distribution Enabled? if not enable it? - User who is not able to download oab is it a E2K3 Mailbox or Exchange 2010 Mailbox? - If it is Exchange 2003 user then it will be an issue with PF Replication where system folders mightn't have replicas; - if it is exchange 2010 mailbox is it following another outlook client on another machine? - Also to see if this is something to with the Oab URL or not, Hold the Right+Ctrl on the machine where the OAB download is failing and do a Test-EmailAutoconfiguration and select "Use Autodiscovery" Enter the credentials of the user and run the test and get the details and observe the values for Internal OAB URL and External URL - For the user whom you think is the Addressbook upto date, to they have their Outlook profiles in cached / online mode ? We are on Exchange 2010 SP2, Outlook 2007 or newer - Hide From AddressList is not selected - both web and public folder distribution are enabled - as previously mentioned, expert level logging reveals nothing about missing users/groups - OAB URLs are correct. As mentioned before, new users with default domain do appear in the OAB, so changes are being downloaded

Hi, Do you have different address lists included in your OAB instead of using the default setting to only include the default GAL as shown in the picture? If that is the case, it would explain your problem.Martina Miskovic

Hi cimqroup, You may try to create a new OAB file that is including the default global addresslist, remember update mailbox database properties and point it to the newly reated OAB file. After that, force OAB update and downloading and try again to see if this works. If the issue continues, please run "Get-GlobalAddressList -id <The default globaladdresslist> |fl". Thanks. good call Martina! for some reason our offline address book was pointing to a non-default address list that didn't include everyone (assigned via powershell). I changed it to point to the GAL, and the OAB is generating correctly now. Thank you so much.
